To improve the firepower of some of the Philippine Marine Corp's V-150 Commando 4x4 light armored vehicles, the Philippine Navy has embarked on the acquisition of 40mm automatic grenade launchers.
These would provide extra fire support capability on top of the standard 12.7mm and 7.62mm machine guns mounted on these vehicles.
The 40mm Automatic Grenade Launcher Acquisition Project of the Philippine Navy (Marines) is among the remaining few projects carried over from the original AFP Modernization Program (AFPMP) under RA 7898 that were carried over for implementation within the period covered by the Revised AFPMP Horizon 1 phase.

Advanced Material Engineering / ST Kinetic submitted their proposed price amounting Php19,750,672.00, and Post Qualification Inspection was conducted by December 2013.
As of April 2014, the Notice to Proceed (NTP) was released in favor of Advanced Material Engineering Pte Ltd, / ST Kinetics Ltd. of Singapore, which was received by its local representative Floro International Corp.

The Philippine Army already uses the CIS 40 AGL as well, mounted on their Simba 4x4 armored vehicles, and the same has been exported by Singapore to several armed forces and law enforcement agencies in addition to the Singapore Armed Forces.
Thus the CIS 40 40mm AGL could be considered a proven product, and may benefit from commonality with what the Philippine Army already uses.
Delivery was said to have been completed by January 2015.
Some of these 40mm AGLs were used by the Philippine Marines during the Battle of Marawi in 2017.
